We are the contracted provider of Location services to the main Utility Networks (i.e: Electricity and Chorus) in the Western BOP region and beyond. Private users can also access our expert services and have their Utility Locations provided by our team of experienced operators with over 50 years combined locating experience. Did you know? Depending on the circumstances, certain utility owners may provide location services on their assets through Fife Ltd at no cost to the customer. Because Fife Ltd is the provider of locating services for the main utilities, we understand their procedures and regulations and can guide customers through the locate process. |
Fife Ltd was originally founded by the Kinghorn family in 2002, and since that time the company has been a contracted provider of cable locating services for the Powerco electricity network. We provide this service in Powerco’s ‘Eastern’ region. We cover the Western BOP from Pongakawa and Pukehina all the way through to Waihi, plus the South Waikato, Hauraki, and Thames-Coromandel areas. The quality of Fife Ltd’s service was recognized in 2016 when we were approached to provide locating services on the Chorus network in the Western BOP area through a contract with Broadspectrum.
In addition to this, Fife Ltd has recently become the contracted provider of cable locating services for the Ultra-Fast Fibre (UFF) network in Tauranga and the greater Western BOP. Damaging underground utilities can be not only expensive and time consuming, but in certain cases also extremely dangerous. |
Fife Ltd can provide you with prompt and accurate information showing you the location where services are most likely to be buried. Utilizing Fife Ltd.’s services can save you time and expense, but above all, keep you safe.
In addition to our contracted network services, Fife Ltd offers a general locating service to both residential and commercial clients. We work extensively and successfully with a variety of customers, providing locations for all sorts of utilities, including gas pipes, fibre cables, galvanized pipes and water mains. |
How much does it cost to use Fife Ltd.’s services?
Fife Ltd is the only Utility Location provider that can discuss with you the scope of your project and determine which aspects may be chargeable, and which may be provided at no cost to you. Generally, work on private property will be chargeable, and one of our technicians can visit your site for a cable location mark out starting from as little as $80.00 (plus GST). Contact our team prior to starting work to discuss your requirements and receive a free and accurate estimate of the likely locating costs. What geographical area do your services cover? Fife Ltd covers the Western BOP (Tauranga and surrounds), plus South Waikato, Hauraki District, and Thames-Coromandel. If you need locating services outside of these regions, feel free to give us a call and we can discuss your requirements. What type of underground utilities do you locate? Fife Ltd locates all types of services. While we specialize in Electricity and Chorus (Telecom) through our network locating contracts, we can also help to find your gas pipe, fibre cable, water mains etc… If I get services marked out but then damage them anyway, am I free from responsibility? Unfortunately no, it must always be remembered that it is the person who is undertaking the actual physical work who is ultimately responsible for any damage or disturbance to underground services. Although modern locating equipment is excellent, and usually very accurate, location marks put down by Fife Ltd are to be used as a guide only, and no warranty as to accuracy is given or implied. It is the responsibility of the customer/contractor undertaking the work to dig with hand-tools and uncover services prior to any machine excavation or ground disturbance. A full list of our Terms of Trade is available upon request. |
Why isn’t it free to locate buried utilities?
In some cases, Fife Ltd can actually locate certain services at no cost to the customer. However, it should always be remembered that ultimately it is the customer / contractor who is responsible for ensuring that they do not disturb any utilities while works are being undertaken. If YOU are digging / boring / drilling / excavating / trenching in any shape or form, then YOU are responsible for ensuring that all services are located and verified prior to commencing work. Contact Fife Ltd and discuss your project with our experienced team for peace of mind while you are working. Who should use Fife Ltd.’s services? Any time work is to be undertaken that disturbs the ground in any shape or form, contact Fife Ltd first. Is there a difference between working in private property and working in the public road reserve? As a general rule, services laid in private property are the responsibility of the property owner (e.g. the power cable that connects your house to the street). Services that run in the road reserve (i.e. under the grass berm, the footpath, kerb, or carriageway itself) generally belong to the network utility companies or to the relevant local council or authority. Utility companies usually retain plans showing the location of their networks, and sometimes provide a location service to mark out where their network runs in the street. We recommend utilising the website www.beforeudig.co.nz to obtain service plans prior to undertaking any projects, or alternatively contact Fife Ltd and we can discuss this with you further. |
